Édson started his professional career in Portugal at age 19, in the lower leagues. In 2005, his third level performances with Oliveira do Bairro Sport Clube caught the attention of top flight side F.C. Paços de Ferreira.
Édson made his league debut against C.D. Nacional on August 21, 2005, in a 0–1 loss in Madeira. In his second season, as Paços reached the UEFA Cup for the first time ever, he netted four times in 25 contests, but was never an undisputed starter in his four-year stay.
In the 2009 summer, Édson signed with Cyprus' Ethnikos Achna FC. However, this spell would be quite unsuccessful, and he returned to his country in the following transfer window, joining Clube Recreativo Desportivo do Libolo.
An Angolan international since 2005, Édson was called-up to the following year's Africa Cup of Nations and the FIFA World Cup; in the latter, he played 20 minutes against Portugal, in a 0–1 defeat.[1]
Édson also participated in the 2008 Africa Cup of Nations, appearing in the quarterfinal match against Egypt, a 1–2 loss.
